Are you a procurement professional with a keen eye for risk?

We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced Procurement Risk Management Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this critical role within the Major Equipment Procurement function, you will be responsible for driving comprehensive risk management strategies for our procurement activities.

Job Title: Senior Procurement Manager – Risk Management

Salary: Circa £65,000 depending on experience

Contract Type: 1 Year FTC, with potential for further extension

Location: Any MBDA UK site (Stevenage, Bristol or Bolton)

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2 days in the office, 3 days a week remotely

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

The Major Equipment Procurement (MEP) function focus on the sourcing, contracting and supply of bespoke high value / high complexity sub-systems and supporting new technology acquisition needed to deliver world-leading defence capabilities for our home Nations and their Allies. In order to achieve this, effective risk management is critical to success. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring that risk management is at the heart of how we transact business with the supply chain.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implement and maintain a robust procurement risk management framework and methodology, in line with company processes
  • Identify, assess, and prioritise potential risks throughout the procurement lifecycle at an enterprise, category or supplier level
  • Analyse macro environment using third party risk platforms and media to identify emerging risks which have the potential to impact the supply chain
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including project procurement managers, strategic supplier relationship managers, supply chain management team and senior leadership
  • Produce internal briefing and communication material on macro environment risks and how our procurement team could mitigate against them
  • Support the development of risk mitigation strategies and oversee implementation of mitigation action by the project procurement manager community
  • Conduct regular risk audits, drive governance reviews internally and lead supplier mass engagements activities
  • Support the supplier on-boarding and risk assessment process
  • Manage and maintain the procurement risk register
  • Develop, drive and nurture a strong risk management culture within the MEP UK function, through delivering training and interactions which embed key principles and encouraging open communication on risk management
  • Support and coach MEP Risk Champions within the function to develop their knowledge and skills in risk management
  • Support the wider national and international agenda on risk management, inputting into internal activities and with MBDA's customers
  • Stay up-to-date on industry best practices in procurement risk management and embody these practices into our procurement risk management framework
  • Support the implementation, adoption and training of tools and solutions related to risk management

What we're looking for from you:

  • You'll bring experience of working in procurement roles, with a strong focus on risk management
  • You have a proven track record of developing and implementing successful risk management strategies
  • You have strong analytical and problem solving skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • You are able to work independently, but build and nurture strong relationships with members of the team
  • You will be able to inspire and develop others about risk management through your passion, commitment and integrity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with risk management software systems (ideally in ARM/riskonnect)
  • Ideally, you will hold, or working towards, a qualification or certification related to procurement and/or risk management (e.g. CIPS/World Commerce & Contracting/IRM)
