Procurement Engineer

Location: Farnborough Area

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: 50K - 56K 

We are seeking a Procurement Engineer to join a market leader within the manufacturing and engineering industry. Reporting to the Head of Procurement, this role offers the opportunity to take commodity ownership and engage in cost reduction projects while supporting technical development. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent procurement skills, and the ability to balance technical and commercial considerations to ensure supplier performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership and strategic management of assigned commodities.
  • Develop and implement commodity strategies that align with business goals.
  • Lead or support sourcing projects to identify, introduce, and develop new suppliers.
  • Design, issue, and collate RFQs and tenders.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering on cost reduction projects, new product development projects, and continuous material while balancing technical requirements and costs.
  • Establish supplier agreements to define relationships with suppliers in clear commercial terms.
  • Utilize supply market intelligence for commercial gain and identify value improvement opportunities to deliver target cost reductions.
  • Conduct supplier commercial negotiations and monitor price movements to maximize cost opportunities.
  • Develop risk management strategies for specific commodities and manage key supplier performance through scorecards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Engineering university degree to a Bachelor Level level or higher.
  • Qualification in Purchasing or Supply or a relevant business degree are desirable. 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role such as transportation or heavy machinery 
  • Strong procurement knowledge including sourcing, commercial negotiation, supplier management, and global sourcing.
  • Excellent supplier relationship management, communication, presentation, negotiation, and persuasion skills.
  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams, build strong relationships, and plan activities to meet schedules and targets.
  • Proficient in standard IT systems, with CAD system knowledge and experience being advantageous
