About the role

Booker.co.uk is the fastest growing business to business wholesale website in the UK, and takes customer orders that account for c.30% of Booker Group’s sales.  The IS Web team look after all infrastructure and application software that run the Booker Group web sites & apps, including the Booker.co.uk our B2B commerce web site, and also the content only consumer facing web sites operated for various divisions and brands within the Booker Group.  The IS team work closely with the Booker Digital team to ensure the systems deliver a seamless end user online experience to our customers.

We are seeking an experienced Test Lead to join our IS WEB Team and lead quality assurance efforts across our web and mobile applications. This role requires strong leadership in coordinating QA activities, including test estimation, reporting, and collaboration with Business Analysts to define and manage acceptance criteria. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with automation tools and frameworks, be proactive in process improvements, and ensure the delivery of high-quality software in an Agile environment.

You will be responsible for

Test Leadership and Coordination: Lead and coordinate QA activities across multiple projects, ensuring quality standards are met throughout the development lifecycle. Provide test estimation for both manual and automated testing efforts, ensuring resource allocation aligns with project timelines.

Test Automation and Execution: Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts using tools such as Selenium, Cucumber, and Maven. Build test suites for both web and mobile platforms, utilising automation frameworks like Perfecto (including Appium for mobile).

Collaboration with Business Analysts: Work closely with Business Analysts to define clear and comprehensive acceptance criteria for user stories. Collaborate with the team to review and refine acceptance criteria, ensuring alignment with business objectives and testability.

Test Coverage Strategy: Define and manage test coverage strategies, ensuring full test coverage for both manual and automated tests. Ensure efficient management and execution of test cases, tracking results and defects using tools like Jira.

You will need

  • Extensive experience in test automation using Selenium, Cucumber, and Maven, with knowledge of Perfecto for mobile and web testing (Appium).
  • Proficient in Java for developing automation scripts.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into delivery workflows.
  • Hands-on experience in API testing and validation.
  • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and experience in Agile environments.
  • Strong experience in defining and managing test coverage strategies for manual and automated tests.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira for test management, defect tracking, and reporting.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with Business Analysts, product teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage test estimation and reporting activities, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of QA milestones.
