37 hours per week.

3 months contract.

09:00-17:00

Job Description:

This position will work as part of the Earth System and Mitigation Science (ESMS) team in the Met Office Hadley Centre working as part of the AmazonFACE project. AmazonFACE is a large international experiment project aimed at better understanding and quantifying the response of tropical forests to rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations. The project is primarily a partnership between the UK and Brazil led by the Met Office in the UK and National Institute for Amazon Research (INPA) in Brazil.

This post will be based at the Met Office in Exeter, UK and work with the Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES) on the Met Office HPC. The post will design, run and analyse experiments assessing the impact of the CO2 response of vegetation on contemporary and future regional carbon sinks and ecosystems. The contractor will develop the model incorporating new science components from the wider project.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent
  • Knowledge and ability to run land models, preferably JULES based setups
  • Knowledge and experience of climate model data
  • Security clearance - you must meet security requirements to work unsupervised at the Met Office
