Senior Underwriter – Political Risk 

We are currently recruiting for our London based Political Risk team (home/office hybrid), working alongside a Portfolio Manager, Senior Underwriter, and an Assistant Underwriter. This will involve underwriting new and existing business in accordance withthe business plan and within a delegated underwriting authority. QBE’s Political Risk team insures a broad range of clients across various sectors and territories, with a key focus on emerging markets. This is a great opportunityto join a growing and historically profitable Political Risk portfolio that provides Contract Frustration and PRI for traders, financial institutions, exportersand corporates. Working alongside a supportive team, you will gain exposure across complex and technical risks. Your new Role: 

  • Underwriting new and existing business in accordance with the business plan, risk appetite and reinsurance strategy. 
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximise influence and achieve business objectives. 
  • Collaborating with the development of strategic priorities and delivery of the business plan.  
  • Involvement in every aspect of the business including reinsurance relationship management, business planning and interfacing with claims, finance, legal, compliance and actuarial teams. 
  • Adhering to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency. 
  • Regularly attending Lloyd’s, actively participating in meetings, sharing knowledge and supporting the development of junior team members. 
  • Ensuring the recording and measurement of insurance risks to ensure accuracy and good practice. 
  • Supporting the aggregate management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence. 
  • Liaising with the service centre regarding insurance contract handovers, processing queries, credit control queries, country/counterparty aggregate management. 
  • Contributing to and/or managing team or divisional projects 
  • Delivering timely and accurate reporting and portfolio analysis as required on a monthly, quarterly or ad hoc basis. 

 About you: 

  • Experience within the Credit and/or Political Risk market, either in an underwriting or broking capacity 
  • An interest in global economic and political affairs 
  • Communicate effectively, concisely, and appropriately at all levels. 
  • Enjoy working as part of a small team and willing to take on responsibility. 
  • Business and financial acumen and curiosity to learn and keep up with market trends and innovations. 
  • Technical skills across Microsoft Office, with an intermediate/advanced Excel skillset preferred.
