We've got an exiting opportunity for a Senior Volunteering & Community Officer to join our team. If you have experience in volunteer management and are excited by the prospect of shaping our future, then we would love to hear from you.

As Ightham Mote approaches its 40th anniversary of opening to visitors, we'll be looking to complete a major visitor infrastructure project. The opportunities this opens up for enhancing volunteer and community engagement are significant.

What it's like to work here

Reporting to the Property Operations Manager, you’ll be part of the Visitor Experience team based primarily at Ightham Mote. Described as the most complete medieval moated manor house in England, this beautiful 700-year-old mansion is surrounded by stunning gardens and a 516 acre, freely accessible estate. Romantic and picturesque, it is nestled in the Kent countryside between Sevenoaks and Tonbridge.

This is a proactive, on-site role which involves day to day engagement with teams across all departments. As one of several Duty Officers you will be part of a rolling rota, including some weekend and Bank Holiday working throughout the year.

What you'll be doing

You'll lead volunteer involvement on and off property, managing our 400+ team of volunteers, and help bring about greater engagement with local communities, including children and young people to ensure we fulfil our ambition to make everyone feel welcome at all our places, whether visiting or volunteering. 


You'll be managing the development and delivery of our portfolio’s strategic plan for volunteering and communities, alongside the Property Leadership Team. Managing and embedding change, you'll be widening and deepening our relationships with existing and new audience.


Increasing the confidence and capability of others, you'll be creating a collective, flexible and inclusive environment for existing & future volunteers, communities and partners

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you, if this sounds like you;

  • an understanding and good practice of volunteer management, community engagement and involvement, as well as broader participation and partnership working.
  • practical and successful experience of developing and implementing new products and approaches to volunteers.
  • excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • ability to coach and support those managing, supervising and working alongside volunteers and community partners.
  • strong communication skills.
