Role Summary:

As a Skilled Fitter, you will be instrumental in stripping, repairing, and assembling aircraft structures, components, and sub-assemblies for various aircraft. Reporting directly to the Flow Leader/Shop Floor Manager, you will collaborate closely with functional specialists, including engineering and quality assurance, to ensure production requirements are met safely, on time, and to customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote a safe workplace environment adhering to Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely clockings (time and attendance) and bookings (job costings).
  • Maintain clean workstations and adhere to clear desk policies.
  • Comply with all Quality standards, processes, and procedures, minimising wastage.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives by reducing unnecessary expenditure.
  • Keep knowledge and training up to date, maintaining necessary Approved Operator (AO) stamps.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and mentor trainees when required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties in line with the role.
Role Specific Responsibilities:
  • Approve own work in accordance with drawing specifications and standards.
  • Read and follow work instructions, specifications, and part drawings.
  • Interpret engineering data, technical drawings, and repair schemes.
  • Operate with minimal supervision and complete work route cards accurately.
  • Precision drilling, reaming, rivetting, and application of assembly techniques.
  • Alignment, rigging, and functional testing of aircraft control systems.
  • Assembly of pipework and application of sealing and jointing techniques.
Job Requirements:
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering or Manufacturing, or time-served apprenticeship in allied trades.
  • Numeracy, literacy, and IT skills, with the ability to read and understand technical documentation.
  • Good planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Working understanding of 5 S and lean principles.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to actively participate in team culture and work with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to undertake mechanical/manual lifting of parts with assistance if required.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
  • Previous experience in the manufacture of complex metallic and composite structures.
Security Clearance:


Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role. Please note that inability to obtain BPSS clearance may affect your eligibility for the role.
