Software Engineering Manager - Platforms

Simply Commerce are partnered with one of the UK's most well renowned businesses who for the last couple of years have invested heavily in to digital, including migrating their tech to microservices and cloud architecture.

They are now looking for a hands on Engineering Manager to join their newly created platform squad, this will involve building and hiring a team of Platform engineers. The purpose of this team to make life for the development teams in other parts of the business easier by providing a set of low friction, fully managed cloud capabilities.

This role is ideal for someone who is at Lead level, looking to step up in to a management role, but still wants to be hands on.

Responsibilities:

• This role is 60% hands on, 40% management.
• Lead, grow and hire a team of engineers that develop best-in-breed tooling and infrastructure as code capabilities.
• Creating and leading the strategy for the roadmap, catering the needs of the business and developers.
• Removing manual implementation from workflows and automating where possible.
• Mentoring and providing career support to the team of developers.

Experience / Skills:

• 4+ years building software products in Typescript.
• Team leadership experience, both technical and people leadership.
• Experience working within cloud architecture - AWS experience required.
• Exposure and good understanding of Dev Ops tools and infrastructure as code.
• 3+ years working in an agile work environment.

Salary up to £80,000

This role is 3 days a week in office in Birmingham with flexible working hours.
