Your new role

MS SQL Server and Azure SQL Server are critical to the success of our clients' software, and they are looking for someone to join their team to help us take our products to the next level. This is a great role for a SQL Server Admin / Expert to join a small but experienced software company where they can make a significant impact on the approach, growth and development of the product range.

You will work closely with the Account Managers and on some occasions with clients. Your focus must be the end user and client. This means functionality, usability, performance, scalability and quality must be paramount in your work.
We are seeking a mid-to-senior professional with at least 5 years of commercial experience. Knowledge is more important than the exact number of years.

  • Responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, security and performance of business-critical database systems
  • Utilise your extensive experience to design, implement, and maintain high-performance SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Creation of monitoring and maintenance jobs and reports to help proactively identify any performance or scalability issues that should be addressed, slow running queries or indexes that should be optimised or reviewed
  • Perform in-depth performance tuning and optimisation, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, slow queries, and other related issues.
  • Analyse wait events and proactively address performance challenges to ensure smooth and efficient database operations.
  • Oversee and manage database replication strategies, including setup, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of replication environments.
  • Perform regular monitoring, tuning, and optimisation of our databases
  • Troubleshooting various database issues and T-SQL queries
  • Improving the Reporting infrastructure for our SaaS products - through SSRS, PowerBI and other tools
  • High degree of organisational skills
  • Interest in upskilling and in other database technologies and Azure Services to help improve product outcomes
  • Ability to work with and advise developers.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in SQL Server database administration


What you'll need to succeed

  • Excellent knowledge of MS SQL Server 2019 or above
  • Excellent knowledge of MS SQL Server Internals, Query Tuning and Optimisation and T-SQL
  • Expertise in analysing and mitigating wait events, bottlenecks, and resource contention.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing database replication solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery mechanisms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Azure knowledge is a plus. Willingness to further grow on Azure technologies is a must.
  • Knowledge of SSRS
  • Knowledge of Replication
  • Team player, can do attitude, willing to transfer knowledge
  • Ability to work within small multi-skilled teams and to communicate about technical aspects in a clear manner
  • Willingness to implement projects on time and to budget
  • Ability to empathise with clients
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate / accessible and organised documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects or tasks

Desirable but not Essential:

  • Knowledge of Power BI and Azure
  • Experience of Multi-Tenanted databases to service SaaS solutions
  • Familiarity / Experience with embedding Power BI or knowledge of the Fabric Suite
  • Azure SQL Experience
