Stores and Production Operative

Location: Rochdale, OL16 3LQ

Salary: £26,000 - £28,000 per annum

Our client is an award-winning, successful machine tool manufacturer, producing high value, precision engineered grinding and rotor milling machines, they are based in Milnrow with excellent transport links.

The company are looking for an energetic operative to support their busy Stores Department and aid the despatch of machines to their customers.

The Role

Assist the Stores Dept staff to ensure deliveries are processed in a timely manner and help in the Machine Build Department with the packing and despatch of machines and making simple jigs.

Responsibilities:

  • Processing goods received including registering items on MRP system.
  • Packing and dispatch of parts.
  • Prepare paperwork for shipping parts internationally.
  • Preparing kitting bins.
  • Deputise for holiday cover for the Storeman.
  • Assist in the packing and dispatch of machines.
  • Prepare machines for long haul shipping including emptying fluids and greasing parts.
  • Complete check lists before transport of machine.
  • Assess weights and dimensions for crates for large parts and update shipping records.
  • Forklift truck duties as required, including moving machines/goods.
  • Building of simple wooden jigs and fixtures.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience of working in Stores for an engineering company.
  • Experience of driving forklift truck (must have a current FLT licence).
  • Experience of using wood working equipment and making jigs.
  • Experience of using an MRP system.
  • Experience of working in an engineering factory doing simple machine maintenance such as emptying oil and coolant.
  • Previously used lifting and slinging equipment.
  • Good organisation and planning skills and can co-ordinate the packing and despatch of large equipment.
  • Able to work un-supervised, show initiative, and manage own workload.
  • At all times work in such a way as to have high regards for both personal safety and the safety of others.

You may have experience in the following roles: Stores, Materials Handler, Production Operative, Manufacturing Operative, Maintenance Engineer, Handyman, Stores Controller.
