Student Mentor - Havant

Prospero Teaching are working closely with a mixed secondary school located in Havant, Hampshire.

The school have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Student Mentor to join their dynamic SEN team from September 2024, on a full time basis.

The position will involve supporting students with special educational needs. This support will come in a variety forms such as in class, group interventions, one to one intervention, mentoring,. This is an extremely rewarding position and the school looking for someone who is passionate about supporting children.

The position is term time only plus one week. 39 school weeks plus 1 additional week to be worked in the summer holidays. Full time working hours are 8am - 4pm Monday - Thursday and 8am - 3.30pm Friday. The pay scale is Hampshire scale D, full time starting salary amount is approx. £20,794 (that figure is pro rata - FTE salary is £23,703). The salary for a part time or flexible working post would be confirmed at interview as it would depend on the agreed working hours.

This position is ideal for a graduate, someone considering a career in teaching or someone experienced in supporting children in an educational setting.

About the successful Student Mentor:

  • Good knowledge and understanding of literacy & numeracy up to KS4.
  • Understanding of the importance of equal access to education.
  • General administration and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of safeguarding children.
  • Understanding of a range of special educational needs including SEMH

Desirable experience for the Student Mentor:

  • Previously/currently employed in a teaching assistant role.
  • Experience with behaviour management.
  • Experience in a school environment.
