Location: Cambridge

Salary: Circa £50,000

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Sustainability Reporting Manager on behalf of one of our clients.

The role holder will lead on the development, management and reporting of the  environmental sustainability data, and be responsible for ensuring the organisation is following best practice with regard to the data it uses to monitor, report and disclose progress against its environmental sustainability commitments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and understand reporting and disclose requirements and best practice that apply to the University with regard to environmental sustainability.
  • Lead on development of reporting capabilities to ensure the University can apply best practice and meet its reporting and disclosure requests and responsibilities.
  • Acting as subject matter expert, advise and make recommendations to the Head of Environmental Sustainability in relation to the organisations reporting and disclosure responsibilities/requirements and capabilities in relation to environmental sustainability.
  • Proactively identify areas for continual improvement in how the University manages and reports data on its environmental sustainability performance.
  • Develop recommendations to the Head of Sustainability, senior management and committees on areas for improvement.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations on which tools/ systems/ processes should be used for compiling, storing and managing the environmental sustainability data, in line with best practice.
  • Lead on the design, development and delivery of approved tools, systems and processes, being responsible for ensuring that the stored data is secure and accurate at all times. Commission and manage third party support where required.
  • Lead on development of data needed to monitor progress against the University’s environmental sustainability commitments and ensure the University can meet its reporting and disclosure responsibilities and requests.
  • Supervise and support other members of the Sustainability Team and Estates Division with this work as required.
  • Provide expert advice and supervision to colleagues to ensure the data is being compiled in accordance with current best practice.
  • Commission and manage third part support to compile data where required.
  • Manage the compilation and provision of data to support annual reporting on the University’s performance against its environmental sustainability performance. Includes providing relevant metrics for inclusion in the annual report and accounts.
  • Manage the annual process for obtaining independent assurance of key metrics that are used to monitor performance against the University’s environmental sustainability commitments.
  • Commission and project manage external auditors to provide independent assurance.
  • Lead on developing environmental sustainability performance metrics at the School/ departmental/institution level. Present the data in format(s) that are highly accessible and engaging to staff and students.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • A good undergraduate degree, postgraduate qualification or equivalent qualification, preferably in environmental science, sustainability or a related topic.
  • Extensive experience of compiling and managing diverse and complex data sets in accordance with best practice.
  • Experience of carbon accounting.
  • Experienced in using a range of tools/ software/ systems for managing environmental sustainability data.
  • Experience of engaging, meeting and working with people from a range of backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Experience of designing/ developing / providing environmental sustainability data to different audiences, in a range of formats.
