The company is a multidisciplinary civil and ground engineering contractor with over 50 years of experience. The services include mine workings treatment, specialist geotechnical services, mini-piling solutions, and work in the renewable energy sector. Your new role

  • To help them to continue to develop their business sustainability, supporting their clients, employees and the environment they work in, delivering sustainable outcomes by reducing their carbon emissions across the company in line with their science-based target, using the Science Based Target Initiative to help them reach their goal to reduce their direct scope 1 carbon emissions 40% by 2030 and become a Net Zero company by 2050.
  • Review and revise sustainability proposals or policies.
  • Set, implement and manage a Science based carbon target for key clients.
  • Research or review regulatory, technical, or market issues related to sustainability.
  • Identify or create new sustainability indicators.
  • Identify or investigate violations of natural resources, waste management, recycling, or other environmental policies.
  • Write grant applications, rebate applications, or project proposals to secure funding for sustainability projects.
  • Provide technical or administrative support for sustainability programs or issues.
  • Identify or procure needed resources to implement sustainability programs or projects.
  • Create or maintain plans or other documents related to sustainability projects.
  • Develop reports or presentations to communicate the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives.
  • Create and manage the company website, to communicate sustainability issues, procedures and objectives.
  • Collect information about waste stream management or green building practices to inform decision-makers.
  • Assess or propose sustainability initiatives, considering factors such as cost-effectiveness, technical feasibility, and acceptance.
  • Monitor or track sustainability indicators, such as energy usage, natural resource usage, waste generation, and recycling.
  • Develop sustainability project goals, objectives, initiatives, or strategies in collaboration with other sustainability professionals.
  • Produce, manage and deliver sustainability reports for internal use and key clients.
  • Produce carbon reports required for company accreditations, e.g. FORS.
  • Review and revise social value proposals or policies.
  • To be a champion within their business for social value and help to co-ordinate social value activities to be delivered by the company and contract teams and co-ordinating with external partners including key clients, local communities, schools and colleges.
  • To help them to integrate social responsibility and sustainability principles into their operations, culture and decision-making processes, ensuring they align with their company policies and meet customer requirements
  • Deliver social impact reports on client contracts using relevant measures and tools.
  • Attend community and careers events to help promote opportunities within the organisation, offering openings at all levels of the business, and increasing apprenticeships and work placement opportunities
  • Help to promote diversity and inclusion across business.
  • Co-ordinate KPI reporting for clients

What you'll need to succeed

  • Science degree in climate or environmental science or other relevant discipline.
  • Have 2/3 years experience in sustainability, environmental data management and social value reporting.
  • Knowledge of the EcoVadis sustainability platform is an advantage but not essential.
  • Must be an effective communicator who has good organisational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and is proactive and able to work on own initiative with ability to take ownership of a broad range of responsibilities to drive projects forward.

  • Full-time office-based role at our Head Office in West Bromwich Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (40 hours)
