Syndicate Accountant (3 Month FTC)

New opportunity whereby the successful candidate will be responsible for certain aspects of the financial accounting, reporting and internal controls for the companies Syndicate. The candidate will also support the book-keeping, recording of transactions and related tasks in support of the Syndicate Finance Manager, whilst building the knowledge and experience to be able to take on further responsibility for further accounting tasks.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• Working alongside the Syndicate Finance Manager, to help deliver regulatory, statutory and management reporting of Syndicate 4242’s financial performance.
• Establishing oneself as a key stakeholder in the interaction process
• Gaining a detailed understanding of the "as at" process whilst documenting the "to be" process through the transition of the Syndicate Finance function to BEAT.
• Maintain accounting records for syndicate/(s) including underwriting journals and assisting in the preparation of the trial balance.
• Preparation of Lloyd’s returns (QMA, QMB, QSR, QAD, ASR, AAD, overseas regulatory returns, Syndicate tax returns).
• Preparation of Syndicate Annual and Underwriting Accounts.
• To reconcile monthly control accounts and prepare quarterly audit file for all processes and controls.
• Liaise with auditors and external clients as necessary
• Provide ad hoc support to other members of the finance team as directed
• Support the team in delivering to its timetable
• Accountable for the effective management of owned controls. Perform these controls with the help of the Syndicate finance team
• Work with the Syndicate finance team to understand the key risks within
• Finance, manage the processes and controls to mitigate these risk

To be successful in this role, you will need to be/have:

• Good grasp of fundamental accounting principles including accounting for technical insurance transactions.
• Familiarity and experience of Lloyd’s returns
• Sound knowledge of IT systems in use within the accounting function - especially Excel, Vision, Sun Accounts.
