Horticulture Teacher Wanted at our Inclusive SEND School!

Are you passionate about plants and keen to make a positive impact in the lives of students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)? GSL Education Hull is looking for a dedicated Horticulture Teacher to join one of our SEMH Schools in Market Weighton.

Position: Horticulture Teacher / Instructor

Location: Market Weighton
Type: Full-Time / Permanent

About the school:

  • Many pupils at the School are helped to develop their holistic needs when they may have struggled to succeed in another school.
  • Many of their students have more challenging & complex background, with a rigorous and academic education which challenges them, not only academically, but also in the terms of their place in society.
  • The schools aim is to provide a bespoke educational provision with a person-centered approach.
  • The schools consists of ages from 11 to 18 years old.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging horticulture lessons tailored to the diverse needs of our students.
  • Working with small groups and student numbers, of ages 11 to 18. 
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and enjoyment.
  • Utilize our garden and greenhouse for practical lessons, fostering a love for nature and the environment.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and support.
  • Collaborate with other staff to integrate horticulture into broader educational goals.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during horticultural activities.
  • Maintain the garden and greenhouse, involving students in the upkeep and care.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Education, or a related field.
  • Happy to accept a Teaching Assistant who is highly competent with gardening and outdoor nature.
  • Experience working with children with SEND is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of horticulture practices and the ability to teach practical skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children with diverse needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
