Teaching Assistant (Mental Health)

Are you thinking of becoming a Psychologist or Counsellor but don't know where to start?

Are you passionate about children who have mental health or special educational needs?

If so, then this may be your dream position!

A Specialist School, on the outskirts of Newbury, are looking for a caring and motivated Teaching Assistant to join their team helping support children with complex mental health/learning needs. The school caters for students with anxiety, trauma, behavioural needs, and those who have issues regulating their emotions, from 5 years all the way to 18 years of age. Therefore, if you are patient, calm, understanding and positive you may be the Teaching Assistant that these students desperately need.

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will help provide support to the students in the classroom, assisting with both their education as well as improving their well being. You will be instrumental to providing the students with an adult who they can trust, and helping to ensure school is a place where they feel safe and happy. You will help keep the students engaged in class, and help manage any behavioural issues that arise.

By working with students with mental health needs and learning needs, you will gain invaluable first-hand experience supporting vulnerable children. This could be the crucial step you need to become a Psychologist, Counsellor or Mental Health practitioner in the future. You will also help transform the lives of young people who desperately need supporting.
