Job Requirements of this Teaching Assistant job in Walsall

A Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) providing support and education to students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. Supporting pupils with a range of needs, including social and emotional difficulties that may impact their learning. A school committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where every student can thrive and succeed academically and personally.

Role Requirements:

  • Experience working with children and young people with social and emotional difficulties, preferably in a PRU or similar setting.
  • Ability to engage effectively with challenging and vulnerable learners, demonstrating patience, empathy, and understanding.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and support their educational and emotional development.

Qualifications or Certificates:

  • A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred.
  • Additional training or certifications in behaviour management, safeguarding, and/or supporting children with social and emotional difficulties would be advantageous.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role within a PRU or alternative provision setting is highly desirable.
  • Experience implementing behaviour support plans and individualised interventions to support student progress and well-being.
  • Familiarity with curriculum frameworks and strategies to support the educational attainment of Key Stage 1 to 4 students.
