Empowering Learning are currently recruiting for a Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join a Specialist Secondary school in Walsall, supporting pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Condition and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. The school strive to deliver a personalised curriculum using specialist strategies for each pupil.

As a Level 2 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the teaching staff and working directly with students to provide tailored assistance. You will help create an inclusive and friendly learning atmosphere, ensuring that all pupils have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, interact with them with a personalised approach suited to the needs of the individual.
  • Support pupils learning in the most effective way, working as an effective member of the class teaching team.
  • To use specialist strategies and approaches such as Makaton, TEACCH, PECs, Intensive Interaction, under the direction and supervision of the Class Teacher and HLTA.
  • Use behaviour management strategies to ensure pupils are engaged and focused in sessions.
  • Recognise that some pupils have communication difficulties and to act sensitively to their differing needs using alternative communication strategies as required.

Requirements:

  • Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with SEN.
