Job Title: Closing Accountant
Location: London Borough
Contract Duration: 6 Months
Rate: £650 per day

Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Closing Accountant to join the finance team within a London Borough for an initial 6-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the year-end close process, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of year-end financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Review and reconcile complex financial transactions and accounts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate closure of financial records in line with statutory deadlines.
  • Work closely with senior management to resolve any financial discrepancies.
  • Liaise with auditors and provide necessary support during the audit process.
  • Ensure compliance with local government accounting standards and legislation.
  • Contribute to improving financial processes and controls.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive experience in closing accounts within the public sector
  • Strong knowledge of UK public sector accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, CIPFA).
  • Experience of financial reporting, reconciliations, and audit preparation.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working within a London Borough or local government setting.
