I'm excited to announce an opportunity for a dynamic Technical Writing Assistant to join my clients Product Compliance team at their Head Office in Plymouth. This critical role involves creating clear, concise, and user-friendly instruction manuals, ensuring that users have accurate and up-to-date information to effectively use the products.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Create instruction manuals for the products we sell, working closely with our buying, branding, and compliance teams to ensure documentation is accurate, engaging, and easy to understand.
  • Evaluate labels, packaging, and instruction manuals for accuracy, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Log and collate safety data sheets.
  • Collaborate with buying, online, customer support teams, and external suppliers to gather relevant information.
  • Prepare documentation and product specifications based on technical information from suppliers.
  • Monitor and assist on various new product introduction projects and related activities.
  • Input data for imports, product quality, safety, and due diligence documentation as required.
  • Work independently, adhering to rapidly changing deadlines and timescales.
  • Interpret and relay complex information back to colleagues and suppliers.
  • Process technical and other product-related data from buyers.
  • Assist in the creation of training materials and other documentation as needed.
  • Manage data input tasks and produce specification sheets for exports into the EU.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality documentation.
  • Experience in user manual writing with an understanding of instructional language, design basics (manipulating images, structuring page layouts), and an appreciation of tone and style.
  • Ability to adapt swiftly to changing requirements and pressures.
  • Technical experience in chemical, electro-mechanical engineering, hardlines, or softlines is advantageous.
  • PC literate with experience in Microsoft Office packages and ideally familiar with graphic design software.
  • Keen eye for detail with strong lateral, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of product groups and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience and understanding of specifications, drawings, and component-level problem solving.
  • Comfortable initiating contact with departments and offshore suppliers and taking ownership of projects from start to finish.
