Description

Role Purpose:

>Provide customer-centred advice for those in housing need, enabling residents to make informed choices about housing options available to resolve their housing needs.

>Place homeless households into emergency and long-term temporary accommodation.

>Allocate settled private rented properties to meet a diverse range of needs from homeless households.

>To ring around daily to secure properties for the use of emergency nightly accommodation.

>To follow up any interest from prospective new nightly accommodation landlords in consultation with Procurement Officers, provide them with the relevant information and inform them of the agreed nightly rate.

>Assess applicants' suitability for rehousing in line with legislation and Council policy and allocate properties in accordance with client risks and general circumstances.

>To carry out suitability assessment of all aspects of the accommodation provided in light of the relevant needs, requirements and circumstances of the homeless household and their family.

>To deputise for the TA Placement Team Leader as and when needed with complex case work or at meetings.

>Have a good understanding of the council's policies and procedures for safeguarding children, vulnerable adults and people affected by domestic abuse, and alert Children's Services and/or Adult Social Care if it is suspected that a child or vulnerable adult might be being abused, neglected, or harmed.

Essential experience:

>Issues relating to the acquisition of emergency accommodation.

>Knowledge of diversity and needs of homeless clients.

>Knowledge of working with external providers and the required standards of all types of temporary and settled accommodation.

>Experience of dealing with members of the public in sometimes stressful situations where their expectations cannot always be met.

>Experience of working in a social/private sector housing environment or related field.

>Experience of working in conjunction with all teams within Housing Needs & Homelessness to ensure coordinated service delivery to statutory homeless households and discharge of the Council's duties under homelessness legislation.
