We've got an amazing trainee/junior level role for someone that wants to get into an exciting career within the logistics/transport world, working with an award-winning logistics company based in Hemel Hempstead.

The position you would be starting in would be a Trainee/Junior Transport Planning Coordinator.

This is an incredibly high performing, award-winning, bespoke transport company, renowned for the high-profile customers they work with too.

If you're looking for a route into an office-based role that provides full training, leading into a long and stable career with room to progress that is a bit different from the norm, this is well worth a look!

This role is on a permanent basis, hybrid working is in place for this team and the job would need to be worked on a 4 days on and 4 days off basis, meaning that you'd be working the following shifts:

  • Shift A: 7am to 5pm - 4 days
  • 4 days off
  • Shift B: 9am to 7pm - 4 days
  • 4 days off
  • Repeat

With the above you'd find that you'll be able to work 2 days in the Hemel Hempstead HQ and 2 days from home in your shift patterns too.

There's a lot that comes with this role too, a starting salary of approximately £25k, hybrid working, generous incentive/bonus schemes, private healthcare, pension scheme, life insurance, parking on site as well as free lunches in the office and free monthly massages too!

The office doesn't have the greatest public transport routes, so ideally will need to be very local to the Maylands area or a driver.

What to expect day-to-day:

The key role of the Transport Planners is to organize, plan and manage transport movements, meeting customer requirements within timeframes, budgets and so on. As part of this you can expect to be fully trained up to handle some of the below:

  • Review outstanding orders on the transport management system.
  • Plan daily vehicle movements, consolidating orders where possible to increase vehicle fill and reduce empty mileage.
  • Ensure that all vehicle movements are planned using the most cost effective routes to optimize costs.
  • Organise Hauliers transport to meet schedules.
  • Arrange collection/delivery times & obtain booking references as required.
  • Ensure all details are entered into the transport management system.
  • Produce, complete and distribute daily schedule.
  • Produce and complete Delivery Schedule.
  • Efficiently manage Helpdesk calls in a timely manner to ensure minimum escalations.
  • Manage daily issues and escalate if appropriate.
  • Assist the team with other duties where necessary and any additional tasks allocated by the Operations Team Leader.
  • Ensure that all jobs have the right customer code assigned, all jobs are rated, all delays and exceptions are recorded in TMS.
  • Provide quality operational data & KPI's
  • Support the Operations Team in with other relevant duties when required.

Candidate Skills

  • This is a Junior/Trainee role, so no experience required! Any previous work experience would be of use an interesting, but not a requirement.
  • Any interest to work in the logistics/transport industry would be a huge bonus!
  • You'll need to be local to Hemel Hempstead or nearby and have access to a car.
  • Must be a quick learner to understand new systems and processes.
  • Good communication skills and manners are a must have.
  • MS Office knowledge (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, O365 etc.)
