As the VP of Global Tax, you will lead the management of all tax-related aspects within our organization. Your primary objective will be to ensure compliance with tax laws in various jurisdictions, minimize tax liabilities, and strategically position us for optimal tax outcomes. Collaboration will be key as you work closely with internal teams, external advisors, and regulatory bodies to ensure accurate and timely tax compliance and reporting.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic tax strategies for the company across diverse global jurisdictions.
  • Offer tax planning guidance for new and existing entities.
  • Ensure adherence to tax laws and regulations in each region.
  • Identify opportunities for tax savings through thorough research of tax laws, regulations, and rulings, and recommend appropriate actions to internal stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on international tax laws concerning income, capital gains, withholding taxes, VAT/GST, transfer pricing, etc.
  • Understand the tax implications of emerging digital business models and keep abreast of the latest tax technology and data management trends.
  • Prepare and submit all tax returns accurately and promptly, including income, sales, payroll, and other applicable taxes.
  • Assess potential impacts of changes in tax laws and regulations and advise Deriv on ensuring compliance.
  • Review and analyze financial data, supporting documents, and tax schedules to identify and resolve discrepancies or issues.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, tax provisions, and related disclosures to comply with accounting standards and reporting requirements.
  • Conduct financial analysis related to taxes, including calculations of effective tax rates, deferred tax assets/liabilities, and tax-related contingencies.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and manage tax-related audit inquiries by collaborating with external auditors.
  • Supervise tax disputes, audits, and litigation, representing the company's interests before tax authorities and courts.
  • Defend the organization's tax positions and mitigate tax exposure.
  • Train and mentor tax professionals across multiple locations to meet performance standards.
  • Foster collaboration among regional tax teams.

Expectations & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Over 15 years of practical experience in tax management, including at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Extensive expertise in handling cross-border transactions, transfer pricing, and withholding tax issues.
  • Thorough understanding of economic substance requirements.
  • Robust knowledge of tax laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Proficient in interpreting and applying complex tax rules to specific scenarios, demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and project management capabilities.
  • Proven track record of working under stringent deadlines with global teams.
  • Proficiency in various tax calculation and reporting methodologies.
  • Experience in establishing effective tax management systems.
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
