Welcome & Service Assistant / Cynorthwyydd Croeso a Gwasanaeth

With your love of books, people, history and enthusiasm to provide an excellent customer service, you will be a valuable member of the small team at Ty Aberconwy, working in the second-hand bookshop and supporting community use of the building.

Hours: This role is a fixed term position with annualised hours. It will be between 1-3 days a week, on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. For much of the contract we will aim to offer a consistent working pattern (to be discussed at interview). However, we are looking for flexibility as the role will need to provide cover and suit the needs of the business depending on the season etc. This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in equal instalments .

Contract end date: 24th February 2025.

This year, 2024, is a trial period of testing and learning and you will be part of this new chapter in Ty Aberconwy’s history. You’ll be part of a small team, reporting to our Welcome Manger, and working alongside our Creative Communities Connector and volunteers. There will also be support from the team at Castell Penrhyn, which is in the same National Trust portfolio.

Although situated in the middle of the busy town of Conwy, Ty Aberconwy feels insulated from the hustle and bustle of the high street. Visitors frequently comment on how calm and peaceful the space feels. It is the only medieval house to have survived the town’s turbulent history. There are 3 floors, with steps down to the lower ground floor and steps up to the two upper floors. There is no alternative access currently.

Er ei fod wedi’i leoli yng nghanol tref brysur Conwy, mae Ty Aberconwy yn teimlo fel ei fod ar wahân i fwrlwm prysur y stryd fawr. Mae ymwelwyr yn gwneud sylwadau am awyrgylch hamddenol a heddychlon y lleoliad yn aml. Dyma'r unig dy masnachwr canoloesol yng Nghonwy i oroesi hanes cythryblus y dref. Mae tri llawr, gyda grisiau i lawr i’r llawr gwaelod a grisiau i fyny i'r ddau lawr uwch. Nid oes mynediad amgen ar hyn o bryd.

The National Trust is the largest conservation charity in Europe and since 1996 second-hand bookshops have been part of the fabric of National Trust fundraising. We have over 200 places selling books, donated by supporters, to raise funds to help us look after the special places in our care.

As a Welcome and Service Assistant at Ty Aberconwy you will be an integral part in all the above. You'll be part of the small team running the second-hand bookshop and supporting the community use of our upstairs spaces.

Day to day you will be giving a warm welcome and friendly service to everyone. You'll be accepting, sorting, pricing, moving and storing donations of books, creating displays and maintaining high standards of presentation. You'll be using the shop till for processing sales, room hire fees and National Trust membership. You'll be talking to people about books, the history of the building, our current vision for Ty Aberconwy, how members of the community can hire the upstairs spaces and many things in between. You'll be an advocate for the National Trust, having conversations about our cause and purpose when the moment is right and letting people know of other local National Trust places to visit. You could be setting up our Public Living Room or helping prepare a space for a school visit. On some days you will be the only member of the team onsite and you will be responsible for opening and closing the property.

Byddwch yn siarad â phobl am lyfrau, hanes yr adeilad, ein gweledigaeth gyfredol ar gyfer Ty Aberconwy, sut y gall aelodau o'r gymuned logi’r lleoedd i fyny’r grisiau ac amrywiaeth o bethau eraill. Byddwch yn eiriolwr dros yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol, yn cael sgyrsiau am ein hachos a’n diben ar yr adeg gywir ac yn rhoi gwybod i bobl am leoedd lleol eraill yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol i ymweld â hwy. Gallech fod yn gosod ein Hystafell Fyw Gyhoeddus neu’n helpu i baratoi lleoliad ar gyfer ymweliad ysgol. Ar rai dyddiau, chi fydd yr unig aelod o’r tîm ar y safle a byddwch yn gyfrifol am agor a chau’r eiddo.
