Poll: Candidate CVs – Does size really matter?

Poll: When it comes to a candidate’s CV, does size really matter?

Whether you’re reading or writing a CV, there’s one question that comes up perhaps more than any other. And it’s a question that confuses and divides recruiters and candidates alike. To put it simply, ‘Does size matter’?

Of course every hiring manager has their own opinion on this. And what might be the right level of detail for one vacancy, may not be right for another. A recent graduate, for example, will probably not have quite as much to say as someone who’s been working in an industry for 30 years.

Arguably, however, as times have changed so too have our attempts to sell ourselves. With a hiring managers time often at a premium, some candidates choose to adopt an innovative approach to win favour and stand out from the crowd. Applications now come in a variety of different formats, ranging from business card CVs to tweeting their talent in 140 characters or less.

For many of us, this may be an attractive option. Trawling through pages and pages of previous employment or occupational hyperbole can be a laborious process, even for those with the hardiest of attention spans. And with hundreds of candidates potentially applying for your vacancy, putting forward a CV that’s simply too long could be part of your criteria for consigning it to the waste paper bin (or digital, Eco-friendly equivalent).

But what do you think? Does size matter? Or is it what you do with it that counts? Have your say now:
