Yahire – ‘reed.co.uk delivers a far higher quality of candidate’

We recently spoke with Taran O’Doherty from Yahire, the fast-growing, London-based furniture and catering equipment hire company, on his experience of hiring staff through reed.co.uk.

Taran owns Yahire with his business partner and lifelong friend Benedict Leslie. Since starting the company in April 2011, they’ve gone from strength to strength and now deliver equipment to over 250 events per week.  Amidst the rapid growth, they quickly came to realise the importance of recruiting quality staff and the most efficient methods of sourcing them.

At first, Yahire tried a combination of job boards (excluding reed.co.uk), recruitment websites and Facebook for their recruitment drive, all of which provided poor results. Other job boards didn’t provide enough interest in their vacancies, failing to deliver value for money. Recruitment websites offered a poor quality of candidate. Facebook led to existing connections asking for work – resulting in difficult and sometimes awkward situations.

When Yahire started advertising through reed.co.uk, a far higher quality of candidate was delivered – along with a far easier user interface than that of other job boards. What really made a difference to Taran was the ability to ask five key questions to the candidates who applied for the position.

By asking questions such as ‘Do you have previous experience in a similar position?” or “Are you able to commute to the office’s location?” Yahire has been able to save time by quickly filtering people who would not be suitable for the position. Taran says he only found this function on reed.co.uk and it was a big factor in their recruitment process.

“We have always found the staff very helpful at reed.co.uk and feel that the huge amounts of people viewing their website compared to the other companies really gave them the edge” said Taran. “When trying to recruit it really is about quality over quantity but at reed.co.uk we get both!”
