The Orpheus Centre, was founded by Sir Richard Stilgoe. Through a focus on the arts, it seeks to inspire and empower young disabled adults to live fulfilling and independent lives. Our success has recently been recognised by Ofsted which, in Spring 2024, assessed us as Outstanding on every criterion.

We are now looking for a visionary and inspiring new CEO to take the Orpheus Centre to the next level - and to lead the centre’s bid to create new, state-of-the-art, college buildings to allow us to expand student numbers and equip us to remain at the forefront of special education for 18-25-year-olds in the decades ahead.
The CEO will provide leadership for the Orpheus Centre, overseeing its operations, growth and long-term sustainability, and lead a team of more than 100 staff and 50 volunteers which serve a community of nearly 70 students.
The successful candidate will bring:

  • Proven track record of successful strategic leadership in the nonprofit or education sector.
  • Experience and/or involvement in successful capital campaigns and major fundraising initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements such as those of Ofsted and/or CQC.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire motivate and influence staff, young people with a diverse range of needs, partners, donors, and the broader community.
