My client, a thriving insurance business in Chelmsford, is looking to recruit a Finance Director to oversee/direct it's finance function. If successful, you will:

  • Have overall responsibility for financial management and control within the business and to maintain accounting records to professional standards.
  • Manage the relationship between the Finance team and the external auditors in production of the Annual Report and Financial Statements
  • Manage the relationship with the outsourced provider of Actuarial Services. Work with that provider Company to ensure that accurate and timely valuations are undertaken.
  • Manage to a professional standard the production of data to facilitate an accurate valuation of the Company's assets and liabilities and thereby monitor solvency trends.
  • Deliver accurate, relevant and timely financial management information to the Board including data demonstrating the Company's solvency position.

Company Secretary

  • Ensuring good information flows within the Board and its committees and between senior management and between senior management and non-executive directors as well as facilitating induction and assisting with professional development as required.
  • Fulfilling the legal responsibilities of a Company Secretary as defined, from time to time, by the Companies Act.

Compliance Oversight

  • To oversee and ensure maintenance of the compliance framework and compliance monitoring programme within the Company.

Responsibilities

Finance Director

To have overall executive management responsibility for the following operational activities:-

  • Financial accounting and controls
  • Data relevant for valuation purposes
  • Data relevant for annual audit purposes
  • Banking relationships
  • Financial reporting to the parent company
  • Assessing product portfolio profitability
  • Prudent control of investing financial assets
  • Solvency II provisions and forecasting
  • Management of the operational relationship with both external and internal auditors to ensure they are effective in delivering good value to the Company from the work they do. Make recommendations to the relevant Board sub-committee about provider reviews when appropriate.
  • Management of the operational relationship with the actuarial firm to ensure they are effective in delivering good value to the Company from the work they do. Make recommendations to the relevant Board sub-committee about provider review when appropriate.
  • Production of accurate and timely financial data for consideration by the Board.
  • Be responsible for the ORSA and SFCR delivery process with a primary focus on the forward-looking business plan financial and solvency projections.
  • To oversee and ensure maintenance of the compliance framework and compliance monitoring programme within the Company.

Company Secretary

  • Issuing notice and agendas together with all supporting information for all Board Meetings, AGM and EGMs.
  • Arranging Board meeting dates and venues.
  • Preparing and issuing the minutes of all such meetings
  • Preparing and issuing all Board financial schedules.
  • Reporting at Board meetings on financial matters concerning the Company and on other matters as directed by the Managing Director.
  • Ensuring the proceedings at all such meetings are conducted within the applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintaining all Company Registers.
  • Preparing all Returns to Companies House and ensuring that they are filed on time.
  • Safeguarding all Company and statutory legal documentation.

Skills Specification

  • Hold a recognised financial accounting qualification.
  • Highly developed organisational skills.
  • Analytical with the ability to interpret complex numerate matters.
  • Strong interpretation skills to understand legislation and present in a meaningful way to colleagues.
  • Ethical and committed to ensuring high standards of business conduct throughout the organisation.
