Our client, a reputable organisation in the public sector, is seeking a Housing Enforcement Officer to join their team on a temporary basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional in the field of environmental health to contribute to the improvement of public health and safety in the local community.

As a Housing Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for investigating service demands related to poor housing conditions, statutory nuisance, pest control, drainage, and filthy premises in the private sector. You will take appropriate action to resolve complaints and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections and surveys of drainage systems, ensuring accurate drawings and specifications for remedial work.
  • Act as a case officer in applying for warrants to enter premises by force if necessary, under the guidance of an environmental health officer or team manager.
  • Carry out site inspections to identify hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), as well as statutory nuisances or public health issues in Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO's) and single-family dwellings.
  • Take informal or statutory enforcement action as required to address identified hazards or issues.
  • Assist in the preparation of prosecution cases, working closely with the environmental health officer or team manager.
  • Take necessary action, including the service of legal notices and works in default, to ensure compliance with regulations.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and single-family dwellings to ensure that they meet the required standards.

Skills and Experience Required:

Relevant qualification in Environmental Health, Drainage or a related field/proven relevant experience.
Previous experience working in Housing Enforcement or Environmental Health Officer
Strong knowledge of environmental health legislation and regulations.
The ability to conduct inspections, investigations, and surveys effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A valid driver's licence and the willingness to travel, as driving is required for this role.

This is a temporary position, offering a highly competitive hourly rate starting from £27.17 Umbrella.
