Are you an ambitious, passionate, and enthusiastic finance professional who wants to be part of a transformation journey?

Camden is building somewhere everyone can thrive, by making our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit. We want to make it a better borough, making radical social change a reality, creating a place where everyone has a chance to succeed and where nobody gets left behind.

The Finance service in Camden has an ambitious vision to ensure consistent delivery of a high-quality, value-added service with excellent financial controls. We will do this through an exciting journey of continuous improvement, change, challenge, and innovation. To be successful we’ll need to constantly adapt to meet the needs of the organisation. The first phase will realign and increase the capacity of the Finance department, so Camden will be recruiting a number of finance roles over the coming months.

The Pension Accountant will report into the Treasury and Pensions Manager and will be responsible for the accounting framework for the Pension Fund, managing the income and expenditure and helping prepare the final accounts. The role will also be expected to work closely with and build relationships with a range of stakeholders both internally and externally. Some of the key responsibilities will include;

  • Taking ownership of preparing the financial statements and the subsequent audit
  • Building relationships with a variety of consultants and investment managers and interpreting complex financial information
  • Producing reports for the Pension Committee and Pension Board
  • Monitoring developments in policy and legislation to assess and advise on the financial impacts, risks, and opportunities

You must be a qualified, or nearly qualified accountant with the ability to explain complex ideas in an accessible and understandable way as well as having exposure to technical accounting. Attention to detail to detail and strong written skills are also essential.

Camden offers hybrid working arrangements and excellent benefits including flexible working, an outstanding pension scheme and access to our incredible staff networks.

We want Camden Council to be a great place to work and to ensure that our communities are represented across our workforce. A vital part of this is ensuring we are a truly inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and those of Other Ethnicities, LGBT+, disabled and neurodiverse communities to make a real difference to our residents so that equalities and justice remains at the heart of everything we do.
