Our client offers a wide variety of products ranging from home decor to gifts and jewellery for every occasion. Their team is passionate about creating high-quality products that their customers will love. This Product Designer role is an excellent opportunity to work with some of the world’s best-known brands across the Gift & Home sectors.

Overview of role:

  • In this particular role as the Gift Designer you will work alongside the Brand Development Manager for Giftware developing product & packaging for new & existing Brands & Ranges including all of the licenses such as Disney, Warner Brothers and many more.
  • Involved in the creation & definition of brands/ranges from initial concept through to delivery, including product, packaging, display & photography
  • You will be given real opportunity to demonstrate your creativity & commercial acumen & will use this as an opportunity to put your name to something.
  • You will be required to balance your focus on both the product identity & the commercials, you will enjoy working at a fast pace to keep ahead of the competition whilst adhering to strict deadlines to ensure timely stock delivery
  • You will take part in sales reviews alongside the Product Development Manager, Brand Development Manager & Imports Manager to understand sales, lessons learnt & set new projects to evolve Brands/Ranges & the products within them
  • You will attend pre sign off meetings to present at director level mood boards, new product designs, branding & packaging ideas for new & existing ranges
  • Once own label projects & briefs are set you will be required to design, cost & sample items within the defined critical path timeframe to agreed product target costs
  • You may also be required to work on exclusive design briefs for specific retailers, this will involve meetings with the National Account manager &/or buyer/buying team to discuss product & design related requirements in order to fulfil the brief within a defined deadline
  • You will be required to conduct regular competitor shopping trips to keep yourself submerged in retail & up to date with current market trends
  • Projects will require good communication & the building of strong relationships with both artwork sources (internal or external) & Far East factories unfamiliar with English
  • You will be required to create branding style guides, packaging style guides, photography & showroom style guides to help ensure the highest standards of Brand consistency

Experience Required:

  • Design based degree OR 3 years’ experience in a consumer product/surface/packaging design office/ studio
  • Creative individual, with a keen eye & genuine passion for gift (or similar), surface pattern & packaging design & new innovative products
  • Proficient using Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign
  • Competent using Microsoft Excel & Powerpoint
  • Able to travel to the Far East to attend factory meetings for new development
  • Able to prioritize, multi-task & organise projects well
  • Good communication skills are required, must be able to explain brands, ranges & concepts & their commercial opportunity in simple form to someone less knowledgeable or experienced
  • Excellent time management & the ability to cope with the pressure of meeting tight deadlines
  • Can do attitude is essential, must be prepared to join the team in getting their hands dirty, setting up, unpacking etc….
  • Confident presenting designs & concepts at Director level
  • Strong numerical & mathematical skills are preferred but not essential as training can be given
